Shift work and making time.

Today was a long one.  I was up at 0230 and off to the gym.  Then I had a 10 hour Nursing shift and as I am typing this my toddler is throwing a blue plastic ball around our room and chasing it like a puppy dog:).  Austin and I are exhausted, but on the bright side it’s Taco Tuesday.  Del Taco has a deal where you get 3 tacos for six dollars.  Can’t beat it and I am able to fit it into my daily points.  But best of all that means no cooking or dishes for me!

As I mentioned above I am a Nurse and the two nursing shifts my clinic has is either a 17 hour day or a 10 to 12 hour day.  Being a Nurse 12 plus hours of work is the norm.  That being said I have had to adapt to fitting in my work outs around a not so convenient work schedule.  My favorite at home work out is where I put on my Osprey backpacking pack(pictured above) and put 25 pounds of weight in it and then get on my treadmill and knock out 30 minutes with a max (for my treadmill) incline of 12% and the speed anywhere from 2-3.5 MPH.  This absolutely kills my quads and it keeps me in shape for hiking with my 20+ pound toddler in her hiking backpack.

This is the treadmill I bought in Nursing school that I was very hopeful would keep me active.  Unfortunately running on the treadmill is the worst and at the time I wasn’t in the mindset to try other workouts on it other than running.  Part of this process to get back into shape and lose the Nursing school/ baby weight is to realize that I am not the same person I was 3 years ago and I can’t compare the body I have now to the body I had then.  That I can’t just pick up my running shoes and run 20 miles and then go about my day.  It has been a hard lesson for me to learn but I feel as if I am finally getting into a routine.

Todays workout consisted of the stairmaster for 30 min at roughly level 5-8, the stairmaster will always kick my butt no matter how good of shape I am in.  This workout was done at my gym at 0300.  Which was painful but so worth it.  After my cardio was done we finished off with legs.

An update as far as my goal to hit a blue dot on WW everyday so far is going well.  I almost caved numerous times but I thought about all the work I put into meal prepping and working out and how I don’t want it to all be for nothing and that helped motivated me to make healthier choices.

I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!  Tomorrow is hump day and I think I will be able to sleep in a little.  I don’t have to be up until 0530 :)!
